Jenny BachJoin us for a two-day workshop led by Jennifer Bach of Bee Love Apiaries and Richard Spiegel, founder of Volcano Island Honey.  This class is for those who are interested in keeping bees, and will give a basic introduction to Natural and Biodynamic Beekeeping.  Topics will include the symbiotic relationship between bees and humans, hive design, honey & wax harvesting, and hands-on exploration with honeybees.  This will be the first of a series of monthly workshops hosted in Kohala.

Jennifer Bach began beekeeping while completing her Bachelors of Science in Biology at the University of Hawaii, Hilo.  Now the owner of Bee Love Apiaries on the Hamakua Coast, her beekeeping philosophy is rooted in natural and holistic practices. She is the creator and an educator for the Honeybee Education Program and Honeybees for Farmers Project.

Richard Spiegel has been keeping bees since the the 1970s.  An orginial “back-to-the-land”-er, he is commited to non-violent, non-toxic beekeeping practices.  As the founder and and former owner of Volcano Island Honey Co. Richard gathered and sold inspired, award-winning gourmet honey nationally and internationally. Currently, Richard is excited to re-invent himself and see what new adventures will open for a vibrant, creative, passionate young man with 70 years of experience!

$50 registration fee includes both days.  Please call (808) 889-1082 to register.  Participants are advised to bring a lunch and water, and to wear closed-toed shoes. Some bee suits will be available; however, participants may wish to wear a long-sleeved white (or light colored shirt) and long pants.
